Connect Google Search Console and GA4 to ChatGPT

You can connect Search Console and GA4 to ChatGPT by adding Rankgaroo as a custom MCP server. Open Plugins, click the plus button, choose Add custom MCP server, and enter https://mcp.rankgaroo.com/mcp. Set Authentication to OAuth, create the plugin, then install it and sign in with Google. Whether you see the option depends on your plan and workspace policy. Rankgaroo only reads your data.

Open Plugins at https://chatgpt.com/plugins and click the plus button.
Choose Add custom MCP server.
Enter the name Rankgaroo and a short description, for example: Read-only Search Console and GA4 data.
Under Connection, enter the server URL https://mcp.rankgaroo.com/mcp. Keep the /mcp at the end.
Set Authentication to OAuth. Read the risk warning, then click I understand and want to continue.
Click Create as a plugin and review the tools ChatGPT found: whoami, gsc_list_properties, gsc_search_analytics, ga4_list_properties and ga4_run_report.
Install the plugin. Start a chat and type @ to pick Rankgaroo.
Signing in with Google
The Google sign-in starts when you install the plugin or first use it. ChatGPT sends you to the Rankgaroo consent page, which names ChatGPT. Click Continue to Google. Google then asks for read-only Search Console and Analytics access, and you can untick either one.
What you need
- Check that your plan allows custom MCP servers. OpenAI's docs say account and workspace policies govern adding them.
- If you do not see Add custom MCP server, your plan or workspace policy is blocking it. In a workspace, ask an admin.
- A Google account that can see your Search Console and GA4 properties.
Good to know
- OpenAI has renamed this area more than once. Older guides say Connectors or Apps and mention a Developer mode switch. The current docs start at Plugins, so labels may differ from older tutorials.
- OpenAI does not verify custom servers. ChatGPT shows a risk warning when you add one.
- ChatGPT asks you to confirm write actions in the conversation. Rankgaroo has no write tools.
- After a server's tools change, click Refresh on the connection and start a new conversation.
- ChatGPT supports both Client ID Metadata Documents and Dynamic Client Registration. Rankgaroo supports both.

Does ChatGPT support MCP on the free plan?
ChatGPT's free plan may not offer custom MCP servers, and OpenAI's docs do not list plans in the pages we checked. Check your plan and workspace policy. If Add custom MCP server is missing under Plugins, that is the likely cause.
Is the Rankgaroo connection in ChatGPT read-only?
Yes, the Rankgaroo connection in ChatGPT is read-only. Google's screen asks only for read-only Search Console and Analytics access, and you can untick either one. The five tools are whoami, gsc_list_properties, gsc_search_analytics, ga4_list_properties and ga4_run_report. None of them can change your data.
Why doesn't ChatGPT show the Rankgaroo tools?
ChatGPT shows the Rankgaroo tools only after the plugin is created, installed and signed in. Open the connection and click Refresh, then start a new conversation and type @ to pick Rankgaroo. Tools do not appear in chats that were open before the change.
