Connect Google Search Console and GA4 to Cursor

Direct answer

Cursor reads remote MCP servers from an mcp.json file. Add a rankgaroo entry with the URL https://mcp.rankgaroo.com/mcp to ~/.cursor/mcp.json for all projects, or .cursor/mcp.json for one project. Cursor registers itself with Rankgaroo using Dynamic Client Registration, then you sign in with Google. Cursor does not support Client ID Metadata Documents yet, and Rankgaroo works without them. All five Rankgaroo tools are read-only.

Connector URL
https://mcp.rankgaroo.com/mcp

Steps

  1. Open ~/.cursor/mcp.json for all projects, or .cursor/mcp.json inside one project. Create the file if it does not exist.

  2. Add this entry:

    Config (JSON)
    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "rankgaroo": {
          "url": "https://mcp.rankgaroo.com/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
  3. Save the file. Cursor's docs also say you can install and manage MCP servers from the Customize page.

  4. Open the Customize page and find rankgaroo. If Cursor shows a sign-in or connect prompt, follow it and finish in the browser.

  5. Start a chat in agent mode and ask a Search Console or GA4 question.

Signing in with Google

Cursor's docs do not spell out when the sign-in opens for a manually added URL server. If Cursor prompts you, a browser tab opens on the Rankgaroo consent page, which names Cursor. Click Continue to Google. Google then asks for read-only Search Console and Analytics access, and you can untick either one.

What you need

  • Cursor's docs do not state a plan requirement for remote MCP servers.
  • On Enterprise, admins can restrict remote server URLs to an allowlist. Ask your admin to allow mcp.rankgaroo.com if the server is blocked.
  • A Google account that can see your Search Console and GA4 properties.

Good to know

  • Cursor has no Client ID Metadata Document support. Cursor staff said in January 2026 that it supports OAuth through Dynamic Client Registration and static credentials. Rankgaroo supports Dynamic Client Registration.
  • Cursor's docs describe sign-in only for one-click installs from the marketplace. For a manual url entry, the sign-in step is not documented, so what you see may vary by version.
  • Cloud Agents keep their own MCP sign-ins, separate from the desktop app. Log out from the Customize page, in the server's Cloud row.
  • If a server will not start, open the Output panel and choose MCP Logs.
  • Older guides say Settings > Tools & MCP. Current docs point to the Customize page.

First questions to try

  • Which Search Console properties do I have, and which one has the most clicks this quarter?

  • Find queries where I rank between positions 8 and 20 in Search Console and sort by impressions.

  • What were my top landing pages by sessions in GA4 over the last 14 days?

Questions

Does Cursor support remote MCP servers with OAuth?

Cursor supports remote MCP servers with OAuth, using authorization code with PKCE. With Dynamic Client Registration it registers as a public client with no client secret. Rankgaroo accepts that registration.

Is the Rankgaroo connection in Cursor read-only?

Yes, the Rankgaroo connection in Cursor is read-only. Google's screen asks only for read-only Search Console and Analytics access, and you can untick either one. The five tools are whoami, gsc_list_properties, gsc_search_analytics, ga4_list_properties and ga4_run_report. None of them can change your data.

Does Cursor support Client ID Metadata Documents?

Cursor does not support Client ID Metadata Documents as of the sources we checked. A Cursor staff reply on the forum gave no timeline. Rankgaroo keeps Dynamic Client Registration on, so Cursor connects anyway.

Why doesn't Cursor show the Rankgaroo tools?

Cursor shows the Rankgaroo tools only after the server starts and sign-in finishes. Check the Customize page for rankgaroo, then open the Output panel and choose MCP Logs to see errors. Also check that the JSON is valid and the URL ends in /mcp.

How do I get access to Rankgaroo while it is in beta?

Rankgaroo is in a private beta, so access is by invite from the beta list. Join the list on the Rankgaroo site and we will send an invite when a spot opens.
