Search Console + GA4 guide

How to build a weekly SEO report with AI

Direct answer

A weekly SEO report needs a few numbers compared week over week: clicks, impressions, organic sessions and key events, plus the pages and queries that moved them. Pull the last 7 days and the 7 days before from Search Console and GA4, then have an AI explain the biggest changes. Rankgaroo has no scheduled reports, so you paste the same prompt each week.

Every Monday you open Search Console, then GA4, then a spreadsheet, and copy numbers into a doc. It takes a while, and by the end you have forgotten which change mattered.

The prompt below does the pull and the first read. It runs when you paste it. Nothing is scheduled.

Do it by hand in Search Console and GA4

  1. In Search Console, open Performance, then Search results. Open the Date filter, choose Compare, and pick the last 7 days against the previous 7.
  2. Note total clicks, impressions, CTR and position. Open the Pages tab and sort by the change in clicks, then repeat for Queries.
  3. In GA4, open Reports, then Acquisition, then Traffic acquisition. Set the last 7 days and turn on the comparison with the previous period.
  4. Note sessions, engagement rate and key events for Organic Search, and look at any new channel such as AI Assistant.
  5. Write the changes and a likely reason for each in a doc, and keep it as a template for next week.

It is about eight screens and two tools every week, and the template drifts as you add questions.

Prompt

Write my weekly SEO report for example.com. Use the 7 days ending 3 days ago for both tools, so Search Console data has settled, and compare with the 7 days before that. From Search Console: total clicks, impressions and CTR, plus the top 10 pages and top 10 queries by clicks with the change from the prior week. From GA4: sessions, engagement rate and key events for Organic Search, Direct and AI Assistant. Then give me a 5 line summary with real numbers, the three biggest movers with a likely reason each, and one thing to do this week. Say when a number is too small to trust.

What the AI calls

  • gsc_search_analytics(siteUrl: "sc-domain:example.com", dimensions: ["date"], startDate: "2026-10-09", endDate: "2026-10-22")

for the site totals of both weeks, then dimensions: ["page"] and ["query"] once per week.

  • ga4_run_report(dimensions: ["sessionDefaultChannelGroup"], metrics: ["sessions", "engagementRate", "keyEvents"], startDate: "2026-10-16", endDate: "2026-10-22")

then the same call for 2026-10-09 to 2026-10-15. There is no comparison tool, so the AI calls each tool for both weeks, subtracts, and writes the summary. Nothing is saved between runs.

What the answer says

Clicks fell 6.5% while impressions rose 2.4%, so this is a click-through dip (1.5% against 1.7%), not lost visibility. The biggest page drop was /templates/freelance-invoice-template/ at 430 clicks against 505, followed by /blog/how-to-track-billable-hours/ at 262 against 318. GA4 agrees: organic sessions fell 5.2% and key events fell 11.1% to 96, a small number to trust. AI Assistant sessions rose from 141 to 172, still small but worth watching.

Limits to know

  • Rankgaroo has no scheduled reports and no stored history. It runs only when you ask, and last week's numbers are fetched again, not remembered.
  • Search Console data lags about 2 to 3 days and recent days can still change. End the window 3 days back for both tools.
  • Each call returns up to 1,000 rows, so page and query lists are partial on large sites. Anonymized queries are hidden, so query totals sit below site totals.
  • Seven days is noisy for a small site. A change of 10 clicks is not a trend.
  • Rankgaroo is read-only. It cannot send or save the report, so paste the answer where you want it.

Questions

What should a weekly SEO report include?

A weekly SEO report should include clicks, impressions, CTR and organic sessions with the change from the prior week, plus the pages and queries that moved most. End with one action. Keep it to a page so you actually read it.

Which dates should a weekly SEO report cover?

A weekly SEO report should cover the last 7 days ending about 3 days ago, compared with the 7 days before. Search Console data lags by 2 to 3 days, and the newest days can still change.

Can AI send my weekly SEO report automatically?

An AI chat only runs when you message it, so it will not send a report on its own. Rankgaroo has no scheduled reports, so you paste the prompt each week. Some AI apps have their own scheduling, which you would need to check.

How do I compare this week with last week in Search Console?

In Search Console, open Performance, then Search results, then the Date filter, and choose Compare. Pick the last 7 days against the previous period. The tables then show both periods and the difference side by side.
