Connect Google Search Console and GA4 to Zed
Direct answer
Zed adds remote MCP servers through its settings. Open Settings, go to AI, then MCP Servers, choose Add Server, then Add Remote Server, and enter https://mcp.rankgaroo.com/mcp. You can also add a context_servers entry in settings.json. Leave out any Authorization header. Zed then prompts you to sign in using the standard MCP OAuth flow, and Rankgaroo takes you on to Google.

Click Add Server, then Add Remote Server.
Enter the URL https://mcp.rankgaroo.com/mcp.
Or edit settings.json directly and add:

What you need
- Zed is a free editor, and its docs state no plan requirement for MCP.
- The docs do not name a minimum Zed version, so update to a current release.
- A Google account that can see your Search Console and GA4 properties.
Good to know
- An Authorization header in the entry turns off the OAuth prompt. Leave it out.
- Zed's docs do not say which version added remote OAuth servers.
- Zed's docs do not show the exact sign-in screens. What you see may differ from this page.

Questions
Does Zed support remote MCP servers with OAuth?
Zed supports remote MCP servers with OAuth. If the entry has a url and no Authorization header, Zed prompts you to authenticate with the standard MCP OAuth flow.
Is the Rankgaroo connection in Zed read-only?
Yes, the Rankgaroo connection in Zed is read-only. Google's screen asks only for read-only Search Console and Analytics access, and you can untick either one. The five tools are whoami, gsc_list_properties, gsc_search_analytics, ga4_list_properties and ga4_run_report. None of them can change your data.
Where do I add an MCP server in Zed?
In Zed you add an MCP server under Settings, AI, MCP Servers, with Add Server and then Add Remote Server. The other route is the context_servers key in settings.json.
Why doesn't Zed show the Rankgaroo tools?
Zed shows the Rankgaroo tools only once the server is added and signed in. Check that the context_servers entry has the right URL and no Authorization header, then complete the sign-in prompt.
How do I get access to Rankgaroo while it is in beta?
Rankgaroo is in a private beta, so access is by invite from the beta list. Join the list on the Rankgaroo site and we will send an invite when a spot opens.
