GA4 guide
How to see your organic landing pages in GA4
Direct answer
To see your GA4 organic landing pages, report on the landing page dimension and keep only sessions whose default channel group is Organic Search. In the UI that means the Landing page report with a channel comparison, or an Explore table with a filter. Sort by sessions, then read engagement and key events beside each page. Rankgaroo can build the same table from one question.

GA4's landing page report mixes every channel, so a page that mostly gets direct visits can look like an SEO page when it is not.
Here is the 28 day view for an example site, with one surprise at the top.
Do it by hand in GA4
- Open Reports, then Engagement, then Landing page, and set the date range.
- Use Add comparison, or the plus next to the first column for a secondary dimension, to bring in Session default channel group, then keep Organic Search only.
- For a cleaner table, open Explore and start a Free form exploration. Add Landing page as rows, and Sessions, Engagement rate and Key events as values.
- Add a filter: Session default channel group exactly matches Organic Search.
- Sort by Sessions and look at any (not set) row before you trust the ranking.
It works for one property and one period, but comparing two periods or splitting by country means rebuilding the exploration each time.
Ask your AI instead
With Rankgaroo connected to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, paste a question like this:
In my GA4 property for example.com, list the top 15 landing pages from Organic Search for 2026-09-25 to 2026-10-22. Show sessions, engagement rate and key events for each. Point out any (not set) landing page, and any page with plenty of sessions but few key events.
What the AI calls
ga4_run_report(dimensions: ["landingPage"], metrics: ["sessions", "engagementRate", "keyEvents"], filters: [{dimension: "sessionDefaultChannelGroup", matchType: "EXACT", value: "Organic Search"}], limit: 15, startDate: "2026-09-25", endDate: "2026-10-22")The AI reads the rows in session order and compares key events per session across pages.
Worked example
| Landing page | Organic sessions | Engagement rate | Key events |
|---|---|---|---|
| (not set) | 1,420 | 1.9% | 14 |
| /templates/freelance-invoice-template | 1,180 | 72.4% | 96 |
| /blog/how-to-track-billable-hours | 960 | 68.9% | 52 |
| / | 840 | 71.2% | 71 |
| /de/templates/rechnungsvorlage-freiberufler | 710 | 66.3% | 33 |
| /templates/timesheet-template | 650 | 61.8% | 27 |
| /blog/invoice-payment-terms-net-30 | 520 | 47.4% | 4 |
| /es/blog/como-cobrar-por-horas | 390 | 58.5% | 15 |
| /pricing | 310 | 74.2% | 41 |
| /ja/templates/quote-template | 240 | 44.6% | 2 |
What the answer says
(not set) tops the list with 1,420 organic sessions, but its engagement rate is 1.9%, so it is a tracking gap, not a page. The real leader is /templates/freelance-invoice-template with 1,180 sessions and 96 key events. Two pages draw search visits but produce almost no key events: /blog/invoice-payment-terms-net-30 (520 sessions, 4 key events) and /ja/templates/quote-template (240 sessions, 2).
Limits to know
- GA4 reports landing pages as paths without the domain. (not set) appears when a session has no recorded landing page, and it can take a large share of the list.
- Landing page is where the session started, not every page the visitor saw.
- GA4's Organic Search channel includes Bing, DuckDuckGo and other engines, so it will not match Search Console's Google-only clicks.
- ga4_run_report returns up to 1,000 rows per call, so a big site sees only its top pages. GA4 may also apply thresholds or sampling on high-cardinality reports.
Questions
What is a landing page in GA4?
A landing page in GA4 is the first page a visitor views in a session. It is recorded per session, so a visitor who comes back later starts a new session with a new landing page.
Why does my GA4 landing page list show (not set)?
A (not set) landing page means GA4 did not record a page view at the start of the session. Common causes include tags that load late and consent settings that delay the page_view event. In the example above it covers 1,420 organic sessions with 1.9% engagement.
How do I find the search queries behind an organic landing page?
GA4 cannot show the search queries behind an organic landing page, but Search Console can. Open Performance, add a page filter, and read the Queries tab.
Do organic landing pages in GA4 include Bing?
Yes. The Organic Search channel counts every search engine GA4 recognises, including Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo and Ecosia. To look at Google alone, filter Session source to google as well.
